Great breakfast at value prices

Visiting from out of town, we didn't want the usual breakfast (Waffle House, Cracker Barrel). In a tourist brochure, my husband and I saw The Roanoker listed for breakfast, so off we went. It was a Sunday morning, so we waited about 15 minutes (there is a sign up on the wall to show how long you will wait from certain spots in line). My husband had a egg/sausage and cheese bowl which he said was wonderful. It was definitely big and filling. He also had their famous biscuits and gravy. Even me, who is not normally a biscuit fan thought they were some of the best I've ever tasted. Yummy! I had a scrambled egg, sausage and pancake special with fried apples. These fried apples were one of the highlights. They had a rich taste and good texture - not soggy like other places. To top it off, I ordered a hot chocolate. It arrived with an accompanying bowl (yes bowl) of REAL whipped cream. Now that made my day! All that at a very reasonable price. The con - The wait staff wasn't the friendliest -- to us. I think you have to be a 'regular' because they certainly talked it up to people they knew. But who really cares, I had my husband to talk to and I really was too busy eating.

Pros: Homemade, yummy biscuits, fried apples and hot chocolate AND plenty of parking too

Cons: maybe the wait staff, but that just might have been us

Just Good Food

Dismissed by hip friends as a retiree diner, I was intrigued by the possibilities of good food at reasonable prices. I was not disappointed. For under 13 dollars, two of us had succulent fried chicken, two flavorful veggies, fresh baked bread and endless glasses of good cold tea. The homemade apple pie and ice cream were the best this big girl has ever eaten--anywhere. The wait staff is friendly, on the ball, and totally unpretentious....I cannot wait to try breakfast there too!

Pros: easy parking, inexpensive, flavorful

Cons: dull decor

Great Place To Eat

I love going to this restaurant to eat. I just had breakfast there this morning. There is quite a variety of foods to choose from for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The prices are a great deal for what you get. Check it out. You will be glad you did. PROS: The food is worth the wait! CONS: Tends to fill up quickly so there could be a long line to get in.
